Nintendo 3DS Update is a Go

I rolled out of bed this morning and turned on my 3DS and was surprised to behold the new update that I've waited all these long languorous months for. Apparently, like the Wii, there will be 24 hour instant access from Nintendo if you have your 3DS in sleep mode so they can deliver content to you around the clock. Don't really know what that content will be, but for now, I'm in, IF I happen to have my 3DS on. It also lets Nintendo collect data from your 3DS to somehow help them with improving content. I would think it would mean what websites you visit and also what features you are using the most.

I was hoping they would have some videos, maybe Nintendo Week at least, but that's a no-go at this point. No videos at all. Thru July 7th you can download Excitebike for free and also there is a free app called Pokedex 3D which serves as a virtual reality reference work for Pokemon you've captured in Pokemon Black or White. Which means it is useless to me since I have neither.

The Virtual Console has three Gameboy titles:

Super Mario Land= $3.99
Alleyway= $2.99
Radar Mission= $2.99

I never had a Gameboy so have never played any of those games. Are any of these titles worth downloading?

One thing to look out for with this download is that it can interfere with Ridge Racer 3D. Here's the official Nintendo news release:

"Important Notice Concerning Ridge Racer 3D
Accompanying the system update available on June 6, it has been confirmed that under certain circumstances when making a selection before the race starts in "Grand Prix" in "Single Play" mode of the Ridge Racer 3D game, the screen sometimes freezes. If you do not install the system update at this time, the symptom will not occur.

We apologize for any inconvenience. We will have a system update in mid-June that should take care of this matter.

In Ridge Racer 3D, pressing the B Button to return from Race Selection or Machine Selection may cause the screen to freeze. If the screen does freeze, please press and hold the Power button and turn the system off then retry. There should be no impact to the save data.

Nintendo"

Sadly, Ridge Racer 3D is one of the few games I play regularly on the 3DS.

Haven't really messed with the internet browser that much but while an improvement over the DSi browser it is still slow and unwieldy and will probably never be used by me. What I'm waiting for is a Netflix app.

I would like to know exactly when the update came up. Was it before midnight on the west coast? If this update had been delayed a day or two more, it would have been the final straw for me. I hope Reggie has some previews of some good games for this system because the outlook is pretty bleak at the moment.
